Clayton Bearce Obituary

Gorham - GORHAM - Clayton Avon Bearce, 86, born in Lincoln, ME, on March 5, 1928, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on December 10, 2014. The son of Stephen and Viva Bearce, Clayton graduated from Mattanawcook Academy High School in Lincoln, ME in 1947. He worked in the Lincoln and Millinocket paper mills as a millwright until he retired in 1988.


He was a 60 year member of the Horab Masonic Lodge and a member of the Anna Shrine. Fishing, hunting, boating, and all outdoor activities were his passion. In his retirement, you could often find him sitting on his deck overlooking the lake he loved.


He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda Lee Bearce of Gorham; his two daughters: Ruth Tarkinson and her husband Alan of Gorham and Debbie Clark and her husband Brad of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; three grandchildren: Andrea Morrell and her husband Andy of Gorham, Lauren Clark and her husband Mark Hatfield of Barrington, NH, and Aaron Tarkinson and his wife Ellen of Stoneham, MA; four great-grandchildren: Dylan and Caroline Morrell of Gorham and Summer and Paige Tarkinson of Stoneham, MA; and a brother, Louis Bearce and his wife Dee of Lincoln, ME. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.


A period of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m., on Monday, December 15, 2014, at the Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State Street, Gorham. Burial will be in the spring. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com.
