Augusta, Maine - Christopher Henry Otto passed away on January 5, 2026, after a long, heartbreaking journey with Lewy Body Dementia. He was 74.
Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, in 1952, Chris graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1974 with a degree in chemical engineering. Later, he received an MBA from Rider University.
In 1971 on a three-week vacation with his family on Thompson Lake, Chris met his future wife, Cathy. They were married on October 5, 1974. During their long and happy union, three wonderful children were born and survive him: Rachel, her husband, Michael, and their son, Henry, Andy and his son, Dylan, and Kevin.
Chris was an enthusiastic and active dad. He loved to travel and took his family on trips to Mexico, Punta Cana, England, of course Thompson Lake. Later, he and his wife loved to go on cruises, and were lucky to visit Alaska, the Mediterranean, Great Britain, New Zealand and Australia.
He was a devoted NY Yankees fan, and would gladly tell you that he grew up watching Mickey Mantle hit home runs. Chris also loved watching Star Trek, and before DLB stole his memories, could recite the dialogue from many episodes. Chris was also known as a car guy, as he loved classic cars. He owned, for many years, a 1969 red XKE Jaguar convertible that he loved dearly. After he bought it (used), he rebuilt the engine, piece by piece. And it ran!
Chris was also handy around the house. He could fix anything. He installed windows, ceiling fans, fixed toilets, faucets and most anything else.
If you were lucky enough to know Chris, you knew how much he loved cats, especially Russian Blues. Meeting him at the Rainbow Bridge will be Molotov, Chekhov, and Yuri.
But most of all, Chris loved his family, and they loved him. He worked hard to provide for them, and loved spending time with them, especially holidays. He was proud of all of his children and he loved to talk about them. He was a good father, grandfather, and a wonderful husband who will be missed more than words can say.
Besides his immediate family, Chris leaves behind to grieve him his brother, Paul and his wife, Arlene; his sister-in-law, Linda Herring; his loving nieces and nephews; and friends, Mary Otto, Bruce Brown and John Takakjian.
Thanks to the staff at MGLTC Glenridge, where Chris spent the last few months for their compassion and care.
