Hartland, Maine - Brenda Jean Thompson-Seekins, 73, died peacefully on August 14, 2023, at her home in Hartland.
Brenda was born on September 28, 1949, in Camden, Maine, a daughter of Herbert Thompson and Pauline Eaton Nichols. She graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1967.
Brenda was a talented writer. She was a reporter for the Bangor Daily News for 30 years. She was the author of two books, Sebasticook Valley and Around Great Moose Lake, and was a Republican Aid at The State of Maine in Augusta. She belonged to several organizations, including the Hartland 3 C's Couples Club, the Athenaeum Club, the Sebasticook Valley Hospital Auxiliary, the Hartland Historical Society, the Great Moose Lake Association, the Pinnacle Ski Club, and the Maine Cemetery Association. She enjoyed sewing, genealogy, and living on the lake. She cherished her family very much and wished for more time to be together.
She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Seekins; children: Stephanie Seekins-Floyd and husband, Jonathan, Spencer Seekins and wife, Cathy, and Shelby Maloon and fiancé, Larry Coston; grandchildren: Paul Floyd, Allie Floyd, Emily Jacobs, Gage Maloon, Gwen Maloon, Whitney Lary, Courtney Hewins, Makenzie Hewins, and bonus grandchildren, Abby Hewins and Ashley Hewins; sisters: Joleen Booth and husband, Robert, Janet Quint, and Donna Manson; former brother-in-law, Tom Quint; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; and brother, Richard Mitchell.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge, Middle Street, Pittsfield.
