Puyallup, Wash. - Boleslaw "Bill" Olen, 92, formerly of Indian Island, passed away peacefully with his son, Peter Olen and daughter-in-law, Patty Olen, by his side on June 24, 2019, in Puyallup, WA.
Bill was born in Queens, NY, where his baseball talent found him catching the pitches of Yankee great, Whitey Ford. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in World War II. Bill's mother died when he was a child and at age 19, after the passing of his father, Bill left the Army to care for his two younger sisters, Anna May and Leona. For over 40 years, Bill worked for Central Hudson Gas and Electric. He is an inductee in the City of Kingston Sports Hall of Fame.
His son, James; his former wife, Bernadette Olen; and beloved wife, Patricia Lolar Olen, predeceased Bill. He is survived by another son, Paul; two stepdaughters, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A friend of Bill W. for over 50 years, he will be remembered for his good humor, generosity, and deep faith.
A funeral Mass will be held on September 21, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, Indian Island.
