Beverly Jane (Andrews) LaPointe Obituary
Brunswick, Maine - Beverly Jane (Andrews) LaPointe joined her beloved husband, Dick LaPointe, in heaven on October 17, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born in North Fryeburg, Maine on August 22, 1931, to Langdon and Carolyn (Baker) Andrews.
Beverly grew up on a small farm with a beautiful view of the white mountains in North Fryeburg. She frequently talked of her fond memories growing up in North Fryeburg. She worked at various summer camps on Lake Kezar during her summer breaks. She graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1949, and always enjoyed attending her class reunions. She graduated from the University of Maine with a bachelor's degree in education in 1953. Being born during the depression, she was always proud that she and her 5 siblings all graduated from college.
Bev's first teaching job was in Brunswick from 1955 to 1956 and later taught in West Hartford, Conn from 1957 to 1960. While attending summer school at UMO she met the love of her life, Dick LaPointe, at a mixer in the Bears Den. She loved to tell the story of how he used to go home on the weekends, but as their relationship grew, he just hung his clothes in his car to be able to stay weekends. They were engaged in November of 1959, and as he said, she didn't say no. They were married in North Conway on July 2, 1960.
Bev and Dick moved to Old Town in the fall of 1960. Bev put her teaching career on hold to raise a family giving birth to 3 kids in 23 months, and had a fourth 21 months later. She was an absolutely awesome mother to her kids. She was a block mother for all the neighborhood kids. She returned to teaching Home Economics in Old Town when the kids were old enough, and retired in 1991 after 25 years of teaching.
Being a Home Economics teacher, Bev could make anything. She made numerous braided rugs, dozens of quilts, keepsake ceramics and could cook anything. Her grown children frequently brought her clothes for repair, and somehow she could sew them back together. She was a charter member of the Molmutoc club. She enjoyed her TOPS groups meeting, making lifelong friends.
Bev loved nothing more than spending a summer day at the family camp on Lake Kezar. She loved listening to the loons, visiting with her brothers and sisters, and catching up with her nieces and nephews.
In 1991 she and Dick built a house in Brunswick to be closer to their kids in southern Maine. After retirement she and Dick went south to Myrtle Beach for the winter with their dear friends, Don and Marcia Solar and Norm and Ann Bridge. They had many guests over the years who they enjoyed playing golf and cards with. They were always up for anything, and organized many events.
Nothing in life meant more to Bev than being Mammy to her 5 granddaughters. She spent countless hours attending her granddaughters' games, plays, ceremonies and school activities.
Bev was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dick LaPointe; parents, Langdon and Carolyn Andrews; her brothers and sister, Langdon (Dorothy) Andrews, Ruth (Ralph) Porter, Albert (Joanne) Andrews and Paul Andrews; and sister-in-law, Raechel LaPointe. She is survived by her special sister, Carolyn (Jim) Cavanaugh of Hingham, Mass; brother-in-law, Laurence of Randolph, sister-in-law, Janet Andrews of Warren who she thought of as a 3rd sister.
