Bernard Smith Obituary
Lincoln, Maine - Bernard Smith, 84, passed away peacefully at home in Lincoln, Maine, on March 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Webster Plantation on July 19, 1940, he was the son of Thelma (Thompson) and Earl Smith.
Bernard leaves behind his wife of nearly 60 years, Anna; their daughters, Bernadette (Steve) Farrar and Annette (Jeff) Wright; and four cherished grandchildren, Zara-Anne Farrar, Hugh Farrar, Callie Wright and Jillian Wright. He is also survived by his brothers, Clinton Smith and Stuart Smith.
Bernard was a proud veteran who served with the U.S. Army 98th Engineers in France. He was "The Telephone Man" for 36 years, diligently maintaining equipment and keeping up with the rapidly evolving technology to make sure his customers had vital communication service.
Bernard loved to hunt, fish, and trap in his younger years. He was a member of Forest Lodge in Springfield, the Horeb Lodge of Lincoln, and the Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor. He served on the MSAD 30 School Board for several terms and was one of several co-owners, who with their wives, renovated and reinvented the Springfield Fair as a family friendly event. His girls have cherished memories of family time at the fair. Throughout his life he loved tinkering with most anything that needed fixing. Getting a good deal or dickering with someone when buying or selling was also a source of joy.
After his retirement from GTE/Verizon, he enjoyed making and selling cedar picnic tables and Adirondack furniture as well as renovating three successive homes with Anna in Brooksville, Florida. Summers were spent at the family camp on Bottle Lake where memories were made, and his custom touches and handiwork are everywhere.
A graveside service will be held at Cole Cemetery in Springfield this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Save the MSG Gary Gordon Center.
