SEARSPORT - SEARSPORT - Barbara S. Nichols, 90, passed away Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at Tall Pines Nursing Home, Belfast. Born March 6, 1919, in Springville, Pa., she was daughter of the late Lionel and Edith (Liepham) Meserole. Barbara was a graduate of Springville High School and attended Sullivan Beauty School, Los Angeles. She worked as a beautician in Palm Beach, Fla.; Montrose, Pa.; and Rochester, N.Y.; and operated her own business in Searsport until her retirement. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Searsport, was active in the Women's Fellowship and a longtime member of the choir. She volunteered her time as an aide for Waldo County Hospital and at Carver Memorial Library, Searsport. Her husband, Stanley M. Schofield, predeceased her, May 5, 1992. Survivors include her husband of 14 years, Clark Nichols; her daughter, Janet Beck and husband, Larry; two grandchildren, Kevin Beck and wife, Jennifer, and Kylee Maston and husband, Steven; two great-grandchildren, Ava Maston and Noah Maston; three stepsons, Dan Nichols and wife, Susan, Ted Nichols and wife, Joyce, and Andrew Nichols; and one brother, John Meserole. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at First Congregational Church, Church Street, Searsport, with the Rev. Dr. Arlin T. Larson officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 261, Searsport, ME 04974. Arrangements are under the direction of Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 31 West Main St., Searsport.
