Orono, Maine - Barbara Jean (Elliott) Piehler, 78, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, under the care of hospice and the staff at Dirigo Pines in Orono, Maine. She was born May 21, 1947, in Taunton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Milton and Elizabeth (Hope) Elliott.

Barbara graduated from Sturdy Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Attleboro, Massachusetts, class of 1967. She remained lifelong friends with many of her classmates. After nursing school, Barbara met Douglas Piehler on a blind date and the two quickly fell in love, getting engaged within a year. They had two sons, Keith and David, and raised their family in New Jersey and Rhode Island.

While living in Rhode Island, Barbara could be found selling handmade crafts at church fundraisers, leading a cub scout den, running the neighborhood yard sale, or volunteering at the elementary school library. Barbara worked as a registered nurse until retiring with Douglas to a house on Mattanawcook Pond in Lincoln, Maine in 2004. They spent their later years canoeing, snowmobiling, playing cards, reading books and were involved with their church until Douglas passed away of cancer in 2012.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Keith Piehler, of Hermon, Maine, and his children, Allison and Camden; son, David Piehler and his wife, Jennifer, of Coventry, Rhode Island, and their children, Elliott and Avery; and many loving family members and friends whose lives she touched.

Family and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lincoln Memorial Library, 21 West Broadway Lincoln, ME 04457, to go towards children's books, mystery novels and landscaping.
