Masardis - Arthur Elmer Demers, 67, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. "Arty" was born March 12, 1952, in Chelsea, MA, son of Arthur L. Demers and Jeannette G. (Carney) Demers. Arty was raised in Lawrence, MA and quickly moved to Masardis, Maine after his high school graduation. He was employed by J. Paul Levesque Lumber Mill in Masardis for many years until his retirement. "Arty, Arty, the one man party" as he was affectionately known was happiest in the company of his family, friends, and his faithful dog, Katie. He had a passion for "staff meetings" with friends and family and also New England sports. He loved his Bruins, Red Sox and especially the Patriots and he had quite the collection of memorabilia to prove it! He was known for his kind demeanor, love of animals and enjoyed a good game of cribbage with his buddy, Grubby, which he played on his own
handmade, wood burned cribbage board. Arty was a very friendly soul and it was often said that there was not a stranger that he would not talk to with a smile and a kind word. Arty is survived by his six brothers, Roger A. and his life partner Amy Gallatin of Glastonbury, CT., David L. and his life partner Debbie Lamirande of Newport, NH., Donald P. and his wife, Susan, of Medway, Lee and his wife, Kay, of Sutton, NH., Michael E. and his wife, Patty, of Millinocket and Keith C. and his wife, Janine, of Winn; sister, Elaine, "Lainie" M. Roy and her husband, Michael, of Old Town, many nieces and nephews and his beloved black lab, Katie. In addition to his parents, Arty was predeceased by his brother Brian K. Demers. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of Arty's friends who have helped him in numerous ways over the years. Friends may greet the family 11-3, Saturday, July 6, at East Branch Snow Rovers Snowmobile Club, Hathaway Rd., East Millinocket, for a Celebration of Life. Gifts may be made in his memory to Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals, PO Box 10, Windham, ME 04082.
