Ann Louise Giggey Obituary

Hampden, Maine - Ann L. Giggey died peacefully on January 8, 2026, at her home in Hampden after a long illness. She was 71. Born in Portland on March 15, 1954, Ann was the sole child of Bernard E. and Emma Geraldine (Pelletier) Giggey.

She grew up on Columbia Road in Portland and graduated from Deering High School in 1972. After both of her parents died while she was a teen, she was welcomed into the family of her uncle, Dana, and aunt, Barbara Giggey, in Orrington. Except for living in Boston for a short time pursuing post-secondary courses, Ann lived her entire life in Maine. She was a correctional officer at the Maine Correctional Woman's Center in Windham while she lived in Otisfield. Ann moved to the Bangor area in the 1990s and had a rewarding career with the Penobscot Community Health Center (PCHC). She became a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, a clinical counseling supervisor, and was instrumental in the creation of the Hope House where she was director. A plaque at the Hope House recognizes her "leadership role focused on recovery and expanding healthcare and housing opportunities for people experiencing homelessness in the Bangor community." Ann lived on Coldbrook Road in Hampden with her feline friend, Daisy.

She is survived by her cousins, Mike and Caryl Giggey of Topsham. She will be dearly remembered by the staff at PCHC and by her special friends, Josh and Abby D'Alessio, Dr. Andrew Fletcher, Ginnie Ferrell, Bruce Hews, and Dr. Lisa Buck.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on January 31 at Bangor Advent Christian Church, 2141 Broadway, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome at the Bangor Humane Society, (207) 942-8902, bangorhumane.org.
