In 1954 she received a Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin. While a student at Lawrence, she met Kenneth "Kim" Mummé, and they married in August 1954. In 1956 Alice earned a Master's of Music degree from the University of Nebraska.

Alice, Kim, and their family went to Trondheim, Norway, for a year in 1971, where Kim was on sabbatical at the University. The family spent another year there in 1976, and Kim and Alice went back again twice more before 1991. While in Norway Alice studied harpsichord with several teachers and also taught piano lessons.
Alice retired from the university in 1996. She then stayed busy volunteering for many years with the Bangor Historical Society and the Page Farm and Home Museum. She was a radio reader for Maine AIRS, and drove cancer patients to appointments.
She was an avid seamstress. She also enjoyed camping, cross-country skiing and traveling.
