North Haven, Maine - Alden R. Mills, age 85, went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2023, after a brief illness.

He was born in North Haven, Maine on April 11, 1938, the son of Bernard and Edith (Beverage) Mills. He attended and graduated from the North Haven school system in 1956.

Alden met the love of his life, Sherry, and married in 1960. Later, after having four children (the 4Ks), he continued his education at UMO and graduated with a BA in Economics. Upon graduating, he moved his family to Machias, Maine and began his long career in banking, working for the Merrill Trust Co. and then the Machias Saving Bank until his retirement in 2002.

Alden was a lifelong learner, earning his Master's degree at Husson University in Bangor. He also enjoyed teaching banking courses for the American Banking Association as well as courses in economics for Southern NH University.

Besides his family, Alden's two major passions were flying and music. He began flying lessons at the age of 16, where he would begin and end his lessons taking off and landing on the North Haven golf course fairway. After a pause to raise his children, he completed his private pilot's license in 1970 and purchased a Cessna 150 which he flew for a decade.

His other passion, music, began at an early age, when he learned how to play the saxophone and piano. Once he had completed a few lessons, he found that he could play better "by ear." After years of playing both, he favored the keyboard and would play until weeks before his passing. For many years he enjoyed playing the piano or his keyboard for nursing homes and hospitals throughout Maine and Central Florida. Before many performances he would exclaim: "I play music from the 90s - the 1890s" which would always get a rise from his audience. Alden was especially honored and thrilled whenever he had the chance to sit in with the Orange River Jazz Band from Whiting and Lubec, Maine.

Alden was predeceased by his parents; loving wife, Sherry; and sister, Priscilla Dempsey.

He is survived by his four children, Kassi, Kendall, Kelli, and Kevin and their spouses; five grandchildren; his sister, Freda Smith; many special nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Alden will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at the Downtown Baptist Church, North Haven, Maine, on September 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. Light refreshments to follow at the Memorial Room at the Baptist Church. The ferry leaves for North Haven from the Rockland Maine State Ferry Terminal at 9:30 a.m. Transportation will be provided from the North Haven terminal to and from the service.
