West Palm Beach, FL, Maine - Alan Joel Schiro, age 88, died peacefully on February 12, 2025, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Alan was born in Bangor, Maine, on December 27, 1936, to the late Sidney W. Schiro and Helen K. Schiro. He attended Hebron Academy, where he played football, basketball and track, and the University of Cincinnati, where he played basketball.

He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Deedy Schiro; a daughter, Hope Ellen Ashner and her husband, Jon, of Boston; a son, Craig Andrew Schiro and his wife, Karen, of Los Angeles; two grandchildren, David and Carly Ashner; a brother, David Schiro and his wife, Jackie, of New York City; nephews, Michael Schiro and Brian Schiro and his wife, Natalie, great-niece, Sarina, and great-nephews, Jared, Leo, Rafa and Jaxon; sister-in-law, Hatsy Lerer of Cincinnati; nephews, Hank Lerer and Eddie Lerer and wife, Ellen, and great-nieces, Sophia and Emily, and great-nephews, Meyer, Gabriel, and Max.

As a young boy he enjoyed his life as a Boy Scout. All his business career was spent at Standard Shoes in Maine, a family business of 90 years founded by his grandfather. Alan was a community activist in Bangor. He was president of Bass Park Corporation, president of the City Planning Commission, member of the Governor's Committee on Small Business, president of the Action Committee of Fifty and politically active in local, state and national campaigns. Alan enjoyed many years of playing golf at Lucerne Golf Club in Dedham, Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, and at The Club at IBIS in Florida, where he lived and served on committees where he continued to serve. He also enjoyed skiing in Maine, Vermont, Western U.S., Italy, Switzerland and Austria. He traveled all over the world. He was known for his honesty and integrity. He was gracious and kind, he loved his family and friends.

His family had a memorial ceremony to celebrate his life in West Palm Beach, per his wishes.
