DIXMONT - Wm. Roger Erskine passed quietly with family by his side, June 1, 2014. He was born in Dixmont, Aug. 17, 1922, the son of William and LaVon (Edminister) Erskine.
Roger was a lifelong resident of Dixmont and owned and operated Dixmont Garage. He loved snowmobiling, bowling, boating, camping, gardening and the Boston Red Sox. Roger was a longtime fire chief and constable of Dixmont. He also drove school bus for many years.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Ruth (Bulley) Erskine, children, Lois Whitcomb and husband, Lawrence W. and Gary Erskine and wife, Elizabeth; three brothers, Elton R. Erskine and wife, Sharon, James W. Erskine and wife, Norma and Robert Erskine and wife, Sonia, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Dianna Erskine Dunton, one brother, Lawrence Erskine and three sisters, Eunice Norris, Esther Winship and Pauline Erskine.
Family and friends are invited to visit 3-5 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2014 at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Dixmont Corner Cemetery, Dixmont, with Pastor Robert Hartell, pastor of the Dixmont United Methodist Church, officiating.
