Willie's Story

WOODVILLE - Sadly, the world lost a loving, wonderful man on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Sgt. Willie D. Albert, Jr. was born on June 24, 1948 to Willie D. and Doris (Ouellette) Albert in Millinocket. He graduated from Stearns High School and went to work for the Great Northern Paper Company before being called to duty by the U.S. Army for two years, one of which was spent in Vietnam. During that time he earned many medals, including 2 bronze stars for heroism. He never forgot his brothers who fought so bravely beside him...those who came home and those who did not. He left the Army as a Sergeant E-5 and returned home to resume working for GNP as a Millwright. He was also one of the last "River Drivers" before the last run was made in the 1970s.

Willie loved his family unconditionally, always wanting to help. At an early age he sold sandwiches that his mom would make to the mill employees to help with family finances. He took great pleasure in bringing home "treats" to his siblings from some of his profits. His many friends can attest to the generosity and work ethics he had. Willie was a life member of VFW Post 4154 and the DAV.

His favorite pastimes included fishing, hunting, bonfires, and riding the back roads enjoying nature alongside his wife Cheryl. Willie always loved a good laugh and could be quite the prankster at times.

He leaves behind his loving wife and soulmate, Cheryl (Jewers) Albert. His memory will live on in her heart until they meet again.

He also leaves behind his loving daughters and their spouses, Marti and Scott Dionne of Medway and Bridget Albert and Tanner Hartford of Hermon; two special grandsons Cameron and Riley Dionne, and precious granddaughters Ava and Mya Hartford; a very special step daughter, Jessica Morrison whom he loved as his own, and her partner Sean of Bradford; much loved step-sons Robbie Morrison of Millinocket and Warren Morrison and wife Lori of Millinocket Lake; two brothers, Bob Albert and his wife Linda of Millinocket, and David Albert and partner Michelle of Milford; four sisters, Sandra Kennerson and her husband Charles of Molunkus Township, Sarah Albert and her partner Dan of Westbrook, Susan Russell and husband Carl of Saco, and Karen Paradis and her husband Dan of Alton; step grandchildren, Madalyn Morrison, Roland Berry, Brittany Berry, and Jahdin Madore; brothers in law Gordon "Deed" Farquhar, who was like a brother to him, and wife Janet, Maynard Martin and wife Claudette, Mike Moore, Dave Giurlanda, Mike Jewers, and Bill Waye; five sisters in law, Mary Ellen Daigle, Kaye Moore, Cheryl Jewers, Carolyn Giurlanda, and Norma Waye; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, too numerous to list. Willie will also be missed by his feline friends of 18 years, Moxie and Fresca, as well as his "girls" - his chickens. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Barbara Martin and Vicki Farquhar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. Tuesday, June 9 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin's Catholic Church, 19 Colby St., Millinocket with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Interment, with military honors, will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Willie may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.lamsonfh.com.
