William's Story

SKOWHEGAN - William Henry Wakefield died on February 28, 2015, at the age of 61. He was born on July 19, 1953, to George and Helen Wakefield in Bangor, ME, and grew up in the South, moving between Florida, Georgia and North Carolina during his school years while his father served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

When he moved back to Maine as a young man, Bill met Susan Pratt and they went on to have two children, Jason and Michael. Bill adored his children and grandchildren more than anything and did his best to show that love always. He had a passion for automobiles, Rock-n-Roll and Blues music, the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, and most of all, the band Aerosmith. He loved to laugh and make people laugh and he was known for being a good friend who would give you the shirt off his back. He was proud to have owned his own taxi business and delivery service, but was most proud to be a father and a grandfather.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, George and Helen; his brothers, Richard, Derwood and baby Benjamin; and his sisters, Joyce and Roberta. He is survived by his son, Jason and his spouse, Amber; his son, Michael and his wife, Tina; his loving grandchildren, Isaac, Jonah, Jahsiah, Athena and Olivia; brothers and sisters, Joanne, Jean and Kempton; many special nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends; and two very important women in his life, Susan and Phyllis. A special thank you to Pastor Berry, Mark and his friends/family at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Skowhegan.

There will be a memorial service to say goodbye to Bill on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 12 McLellan St., Skowhegan, with Pastor Berry officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Trinity Evangelical Free Church.
