- William "Bill" C. Holmes, 75, died April 1, 2017. He was born May 20, 1941, in Denver, CO, son of Wesley C. and Louise M. (Schaal) Holmes of Burlington, CO.
Bill was an avid Broncos fan, and a talented football player, making all conference his senior year in high school in Burlington, CO. He graduated from Colorado University with a bachelors degree in physics engineering. During the Vietnam War, he worked at the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant, after which he went in business with his father as an electrician. Eventually he began contracting work all over the country as an electrical designer, and lived in 19 different states.
In Burlington, Bill served as president of the local Jaycees and the Northern Colorado Jaycees. In 2004, he helped found The Maine Beacon Center for Spiritual Living in Gorham. Bill was known and loved by those who knew him for his sharp sense of humor, love of the water, great cooking, and his peaceful nature. He enjoyed traveling, reading, swimming, and square and round dancing.
He is survived by his wife, the Rev., Linda Emery Holmes of Palmyra; son, Cully Holmes and wife, Diann, of Parker, CO; son, Todd Holmes of Burlington, CO; daughter, Nancy Gilley and husband, Melvin, of Burlington, CO; stepdaughter, Kathryn Ballard and husband ,George, of Troutdale, OR; stepson, Todd Tracy and wife, Theresa, of Monroe; sister, Evelyn Waitman of Hotchkiss, CO; grandchildren, Kaleb and Emily Gilley, Cameron, Wesley and Sierra Holmes; stepgranddaughter, Ashleigh Goslee; 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his grandson, Jeffery Gilley; and his first wife, B. Lynne Ruiz of Burlington, CO.
Bill's family extends special thanks to his long-time caregiver, Julie Brown, Maine General Hospice, Beacon Hospice, and Hibbard Skilled Nursing & Retirement Center for their care and support.
A memorial service celebrating Bill's life will be held at the First Universalist Church in Pittsfield on Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Julianne Bousquet officiating and a reception following at the church. An additional service will be held in Burlington, CO, the time and place to be announced.
