- William R. Fraser passed away on August 27, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was the son of the late Robert and Katie Ambrose Fraser. With his mother passing away shortly after giving birth, Bill was raised by his grandparents Charles and Margaret Fraser. Bill was born in Millinocket, ME on the 4th of July, 1935 where he graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1952. Following high school, Bill went to Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, ME, graduating in 1953. From there, given the opportunity by his mentor and beloved uncle, Colonel Ronald F. Fraser and his wife Geraldine, Bill attended and graduated from the University of Notre Dame, class of 1957. During his college semester breaks, Bill stayed at the home of his uncle and aunt, Bill and Elizabeth "Zozzie" Shumway of South Amherst, MA and met the love of his life, Janet S. McKemmie. Bill and Janet married on October 31, 1959 and settled in Wilbraham, MA. Bill was predeceased by his wife Janet in 2015, his father Robert Fraser, his mother Katie Fraser, his brother Terrence, many loving uncles, aunts, sister and brothers-in-law and cousins. Bill leaves four children; Jeffrey, his wife Maryellen and their daughter Cathleen of West Springfield, Matthew, his wife Lynne, son Christopher and daughter Lauren of Wilbraham, Margaret, her husband Paul, sons Colin, Aaron and daughter Callie of Wilbraham and Douglas, his wife Michelle and Douglas's children William, Abigail and Annalia of Keene, NH. Bill also leaves behind his step-mother Mary Fraser of Bangor, ME, sister Lizz Hill of Three Rivers, CA, sister Bridget and her husband Mark Woodward of Bangor, ME, brother Richard and his wife Denise of Lewiston, ME, sisters-in-law Louise Micka, Barbara Jacque, Virginia Downie, Audrey McKemmie, Kay McKemmie and brother-in-law Norman Campbell and many, many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins who, with God's blessing, are too numerous to name. Bill joined Friendly Ice Cream in 1963 as Purchasing Agent, retiring in 1998 as Vice President, Purchasing & Raw Materials. During Bill's tenure at FIC, the company grew from a portfolio of 79 restaurants to over 800 when he retired in 1998. Bill also served as Chairman, Springfield Boys & Girls Club and was a longtime member of the Country Club of Wilbraham. Bill and Janet spent many wonderful years at their log cabin in East Dover, VT where they created countless fond memories for their family and dear friends. As the years progressed, they enjoyed summer vacations at Moody Beach, ME with their children and grandchildren where they carried on their life's mission of leaving them all, unforgettable memories of fun times and memorable moments that will be cherished forever. Bill is now reunited with his bride Janet and his mother Katie, whom he never knew. Calling hours will be Thursday, August 31st from 4-7 at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA. The family requests that you meet them directly at St. Cecilia's Church, Wilbraham, MA for Bill's liturgy of Christian burial at 10:00 Friday, September 1st followed by burial in Adams Cemetery, Wilbraham.
