William's Story

Text size

Winterport - William H. Dorrity, III, 57, died on July 6, 2017, surrounded by his family at his home in Winterport. He was born on December 28, 1959, in Bangor, the son of William H. and Joyce (Nickerson) Dorrity.
Bill will be remembered as a dedicated professor at Eastern Maine Community College where he taught for many years. Bill was also a successful businessman. Prior to his teaching career, he owned and operated two stores in Howland. He was an avid beekeeper and turned that passion into a business, supplying packaged honeybees across the state.
In addition to his parents of Winterport, Bill is survived by his children, Heidi Taylor and husband, James of Rockland, Allyson of Bangor, Scott of Bangor, and Thomas and his wife, Petra of Hampden; their mother, Julie of Bangor; sister, Carolyn and husband, Jay Muth of Winterport; grandsons, Thomas Oscar Dorrity and Jude William Taylor; nephews, Casey Dorrity and fiancée, Abigail Jewett, Zach Dorrity and wife, Rebekah; nieces, Jamie Cotnoir, Meagan Rogers and Ashley Cope; several dear cousins; and his special buddy, Chestnut.
Bill had many friends and wishes to thank all who supported him over the years, especially the past few years as he courageously battled against cancer. Bill fought with the same grit and determination that made him such a successful businessman.
There will be a gathering at EMCC's Rangeley Hall in Bangor on Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 5 to 7 pm to remember and celebrate Bill's life.
Bill truly loved life, but his hope was in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and eternity with Him.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to New Hope Hospice, 1344 Main Road, Eddington, Maine 04428 or Eastern Maine Community College Foundation's Small Business 4 Maine Scholarship Fund, 354 Hogan Road, Bangor, Maine 04401.
