Wendell's Story

Wendell A. Young, 70, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 9, 1945, in Bangor, the son of Dale A. and Flora Mae (Homestead) Young.

Wendell worked for 45 years for the Orono Public Works Department with the Town of Orono. He lived for deer hunting in the fall. Throughout his life he had many teams of pulling horses and traveled throughout New England to different competitions.

He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Young and companion, Jim Thompson, of Orono and Lori Smith and husband, Barry, of Orono; a sister, Marilyn Cowan of Orono; his best friend, Kenny Beylerian; and many other friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Diane, in 1995. The family would like to thank Hospice of Eastern Maine for all their care and compassion throughout his illness.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 29, at the Orono Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 72 Main Street, Orono, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30, with Pastor Steven Smith, of the United Methodist Church, Orono, officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Orono. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Wendell's home, 4 Union Street, Orono, following the interment.
