- Wendell E. Harvey Sr., 90, went to be with his Lord February 9, 2017, in Houlton. He was born November 4, 1926, in Monticello, the son of Alonzo and Ruby (Stockford) Harvey.
Wendell was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to trap and enjoyed watching the deer on the farm. He was a lifetime member of the Monticello Fire Department where he and his wife were part of the first responders. He served on the Houlton School Board of directors for 6 years. He was also a member of the Maine State Grange, serving as past master of The Monticello Grange. Wendell held memberships with the Monticello Fish and Game club, the Meduxnekeag Ramblers Snowmobile Club, The Lake Road Free Will Baptist Church, the NRA, the Boy Scouts of America, the Houlton Dux club, Houlton Rifle and Pistol Club, Presque Isle Rod and Gun Club, and the Pine Tree State Rifle and Pistol Association. For many years he was the moderator of the Monticello Town meetings, and he recently served on the Monticello Budget Committee. Wendell loved to attend the local basketball games at both Houlton and Hodgdon High schools where he came to meet some great people. He loved all sports and took part in coaching his sons' little league teams in Monticello.
Wendell worked for years as a property superintendent for Houlton and Caribou Associates. He also took care of the deer yard in Monticello. He liked to spend his spare time volunteering in the gift shop at Houlton Regional Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Elinor (Hoyt) Harvey of Monticello; 2 sons Wendell Jr. and wife, Jody of Houlton, Christopher Harvey of Monticello; a granddaughter, Lauren and Tom Rouse of Houlton; 2 special great-granddaughters, Molly and Maddie Rouse; an exchange daughter, Yukiko Takada of Tokyo, Japan; a sister, Ida Ricker of Monticello. He was predeceased by his parents; an exchange daughter, Susanne Ivarsson; 2 sisters, Eldora Nason and Geraldine Ellis; a brother Cedric Harvey.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 13th, 2017, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton, and again on Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at the Lake Road Free Will Baptist Church in Monticello where funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Carl Demerchent officiating.
