Wayne's Story

ORRINGTON - Wayne A. Willette, 69, died June 22, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. He was born August 19, 1944 in Patten, Maine, the son of Alonzo Albert and Leah Ingerson.

He was the cherished husband of his wife Joyce Lundgren Willette and patriarch of a loving family including Jennifer and her husband George, Tracy and his wife Christine, Matthew and his wife Pauline, Kyle and his wife Kim, and Megan and her husband Mitch. He was the "Best Grampie Ever" to 13 grandchildren, Ashley, Kristina, Tyler, Jared, Jacob, Drew, Peyton, Alison, Kaelyn, Chandler, Charlie, Skyler, and Zadie. Wayne is also survived by his brother Chet, nephews Carroll, Darrell, and Brian, and niece Sally, and their many children.

A graduate of Piscataquis Community High School and Washington State Teachers College (University of Maine at Machias), Wayne knew from his first day of student teaching that he had found his calling. He spent thirty-seven years in the classroom, including his years as department chair/teacher in the TEMSS program at Bangor High School. Wayne had a gift for recognizing and fostering the potential in each of his students. A true mentor, he earned his students' respect and admiration that endured long after he guided them toward successful graduation.

The family would also like to thank Drs. Fashiol, Hand, Rajan, and Van Kirk as well as the nurses in the Emergency Department and ICU at Eastern Maine Medical Center for the compassion shown to Wayne and his family during this very difficult time.

A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Wayne's life will be held 11 AM Monday, June 30, 2014 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Hampden. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer.
