Wanda's Story

PITTSFIELD - Wanda Marie (Green) Dahlgren, 83, died peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at her home in Pittsfield surrounded by loved ones.

Wanda was born on March 18, 1932, in Blaine, Maine, the daughter of the late Gail Green and Marion (Piper) White. She graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1950 and married her high school sweetheart, Maynard Dahlgren in 1951.

Wanda spent over 20 years as a homemaker. She enjoyed making her house a wonderful home for her family. She had numerous talents such as knitting, crocheting, and especially sewing. She was an accomplished seamstress, making many beautiful dresses and skirts, creative Halloween costumes, doll clothes, and craft projects. Wanda's exceptional organizational skills lead to her second career as a secretary for MSAD #53 for 18 years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed her third "career" as a wonderful "mimi", babysitting for her granddaughter, Jordy. She loved to work in her flower gardens, feed the birds, and decorate her home, especially for the holidays. Wanda and her husband enjoyed card games with dear friends, Charlie and Gloria DeBeck, and socializing with special neighbors. They loved going to dances, golfing, trips to the coast, and especially family gatherings. Wanda was a member of the Pittsfield Athenaeum Club, and Bridge Club. She dedicated her life to her family and will be lovingly missed.

She is survived by her children, Rhonda Magnus Crowe and husband, Tim, of Newport, Kirk Dahlgren and fiancé Rhonda Allen of Detroit, and Jennifer Cram and husband, Harry, of Pittsfield; grandchildren, Jason Magnus and Tracey Coolen, Jeffrey Magnus and wife, Tifany Wijaya, and Jordyn Cram; great granddaughter, Sierra Magnus; sister and best friend, Margaret "Peg" Thompson; dear brother Ronald Kinney; sisters-in-law, Wahneta Dahlgren, Rita Cushman, and Elaine Doughty; brother-in-law, George Gray; son-in-law, Hal Magnus; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was predeceased by her parents; stepfathers, Basil Kinney and Edward White; her loving husband of 64 years, Maynard; brother, Wendell Green and wife Fran; sister, Ida Curtis and husband Don; sister, Opal Gray and husband Carl; sister-in-law, Debra Kinney; brother-in-law, Ted Thompson; and daughter-in-law, Gloria Dahlgren.

Because only 45 days separated their times of passing, a celebration of life honoring both Maynard and Wanda will be held in the near future, date and time to be announced.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to help the community in which Maynard and Wanda lived for most of their lives: The Pittsfield Community Theatre, c/o Town of Pittsfield, 112 Somerset Avenue, Pittsfield, Maine, 04967 or to Maine Central Institute, 295 Main Street, Pittsfield, Maine, 04967.
