- Walter passed away on July 4, 2017 at his home in Norfolk, Virginia. He was born on August 8, 1951 to Bill and Avis Unterreiner. Walter was a graduate of KHS, attended college in Farmington, then moved to Virginia. After various jobs, he returned to college and got his Masters in English Lit, graduating at the top of his class and became a professor at Old Dominion University. He worked hard and was very proud of his accomplishments. A few years after his teaching began, he was diagnosed with stage four throat cancer. He overcame the cancer, but the treatments left him with other health issues and he was unable to continue teaching, which was very disappointing to him. He left behind his soulmate of 35 years, Greg Willis; three brothers; William, Stephen and wife Pam, Gary and wife Renee; six sisters; Marge and husband Gary, Susan, Janice and husband Eric, Kathy, Lori, Vicky and fiancé Peter and many who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, brother-in-law Jim and a very special aunt, Agnes. Walter was a great writer and storyteller. He loved his family and his trips home every summer for the labor day celebration. There will be a remembrance for Walter at the Sherman Rec Department on Sunday, July 23rd from 1:00 to 4:00 for family and friends to say goodbye.
