CORINNA & DEXTER - Walter Lyman Ireland, 102, an incomparable son, brother, husband and father passed away January 12, 2015 after a brief illness at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born November 1, 1912 in St. Albans, a son of Lyman and Bertha (Nutter) Ireland.
He graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1931, where he loved playing basketball.
He also enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics games whenever they were on TV up until his passing. Walter will always be remembered for his giving heart and helping others. He loved
hunting and fishing with all his many friends, and enjoyed working in his workshop where he spent many hours building a beautiful boat, furniture, tables and countless other items for his family and friends.
He worked as a carpenter in Bangor for many years building houses and then became the wheel alignment specialist for Perley Hartley in Corinna for over 27years.
Walter is survived by 2 daughters, Peggy Kaufman of Dexter and Elaine Levenseller
of Milton, Florida; 4 special grand-daughters, LeAnn Kaufman, Christine Moulton,
Teresa Emery and Shannon Cousins; 8 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife Arlene (Bryson) Ireland; and 2 sisters,
Madeline Anderson and Florence Brown.
Graveside committal services will be held in the spring at the Corinna Village
Cemetery on the Stetson Road. Arrangements are by Crosby& Neal Chapel, Corinna. Those who wish to remember Walter in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Stewart Library Building Restoration Project, Town Office, 8 Levi Stewart Drive, Corinna, ME 04928.
