Vivian's Story

LOWELL, MASS. AND BREWER - Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother

Vivian C. "Nana" (Perkins) Cummings, a resident of Lowell, MA, formerly of Brewer, Maine, died June 22, 2014, at D'Youville Senior Care, aged 97 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Percy L. "Buck" Cummings, with whom she celebrated 37 years of marriage.

She was born in Weston, Maine, February 10, 1917, a daughter of the late Charles A. and Ruth (Sutherland) Perkins. She graduated from Danforth High School and furthered her education at the Houlton Business School.

Nana devoted her life to her family, who surrounded her with love during her later years after leaving her beloved Maine at the age of 90. She was a kind, gentle person whose greatest joy in life was caring for her family and especially spending time with her cherished great-grandchildren. Vivian loved her Lord and was a faithful prayer warrior. She liked the Celtics, watching Jeopardy, and doing jigsaw puzzles. And, she made a mean banana bread.

She is survived by a son, Charles "Chuck" Cummings and his wife, Nancy of Lowell; a stepdaughter, Hope Lichtman of Portland, ME; a brother, Virgil Perkins and his wife, Shirley of Hope, ME; three grandchildren, Susan Lichtman Maataoui and her husband, Tayeb of Portland, ME, Cristyn Marlene Hartley and her husband, Aaron of Haverhill, and Peter Hale Cummings and his wife, Jennifer of Townsend; four great-grandchildren, Kristofer, Madeline, Lilliana and Caleb. She was the sister of the late Hazel Faulkner, Geneva Sherwood, Daniel Perkins and Lottie Moody.

Vivian's Graveside Service will be held on Thursday at the Riverview Cemetery in Bucksport, Maine, at 12:00 PM. Arrangements entrusted to MORSE-BAYLISS Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Blvd., Lowell. Funeral Directors, Frederick W. Healy and Walter F. Bayliss. Please visit Vivian's memorial tribute at
