HANCOCK - Vivian N. Colwell, 87, died March 26, 2015, at her home in Hancock. She was born in Portland, October 31, 1927, daughter of John L. and Evelyn Nash.
At the age of 4, the family moved to Sorrento, where she grew up. She graduated from Sullivan High School. In 1951, she and Charles M. Colwell were married. She worked as a clerk for Bangor Hydro and was a homemaker while raising her family. Additionally, she was a clerk for the Town of Hancock, bookkeeper at Colwell Diesel Service, and Clerk of Courts for Maine State District Courts retiring in the mid 1980's. Vivian was a member of the Hancock Women's Club, Friendship Group and also belonged with some of her friends to a walking group that she enjoyed. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and sharing her "recipes."
She is survived by her children, Charles S. Colwell and wife, Mimi, of Holden, George W. Colwell and wife, Brenda, of Hancock and Merrideth Shea and husband, Thomas, of Marrieta, GA; grandchildren, Daniel and wife, Erin, Emily, Elaine, Kimberly Snow and husband, Jeremy, and Katherine; great-grandchild, James Colwell; and sister, Jeannette L. Candage of Blue Hill. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles.
Calling hours will be held 1-2 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bob Maddocks officiating. Interment will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Hancock. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Vivian's memory may be made to Hancock County Homecare and Hospice, P.O.
