Biddeford - Virginia 'Ginny' Aderina Kelly Steele, 88, of Biddeford, peacefully passed away on April 22, 2017, at Southridge Rehabilitation and Living Center in Biddeford. She was born on September 1, 1928, in Boston, MA, to Albert and Eula (Hinton) Kelly and lived in Foxboro, MA, with them and her siblings. She graduated from Foxboro High School before attending Boston Conservatory for two years.
On July 24, 1948, she married Robert E. Steele and together they raised eight children.
Ginny returned to college when she was 60 at the University of Maine and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in Social Work in 1986. She went on to work for the State of Florida for 10 years until she retired. During her retirement she stayed active in Florida as well as traveling the world with friends. When she returned to Maine she became an advocate for people with disabilities, ensuring that they were treated fairly and able to receive an education. She was also involved with the Democratic Party and democratic convention delegate. She volunteered for many organizations, including the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, the STRAZ and was even the President of the Volunteer Ushers Guild.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Steele; a daughter Mary Jane Steele; sisters, Winnie Fournier and Alberta Ienello; and her brother Albert Kelly.
Ginny is survived by: three sons: James "Jeff" Steele, Bradford Steele and Robert Steele, Jr. Four daughters: Cheryl Oakes, Elaine Fabian, Laura Steele and Janet Bruyere. 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
A Celebration of Ginny's life will be celebrated on July 26, 2017, at St. Mary's Church in Foxboro, MA. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Foxboro, MA, immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ginny's name may be made to Waban Projects, Inc., 5 Dunaway Dr., Sanford, ME 04073.
