- Victor W. Hamel, Jr. "Sonny," 87, passed away May 17, 2017, at CMMC in Lewiston, Maine. He was born in Hampden, Maine, February 15, 1930, the son of Victor W. and Lillian (Hargreaves) Hamel.
Victor attended Hampden Academy before entering the United States Marine Corps in 1948. He served in the First Marine Division and was a part of the Inchon Landing in Korea. He loved his country and served for a total of nine years.
He married Marilyn Parker on May 23, 1953.
He is survived by his daughters Vickie Swanson of Mechanic Falls, Kimberly Nickey and her husband Steven of Leeds. Four grandchildren, Laurel Paladino, Adam Paladino and his wife Michelle, Kirsten Petrie, all of Mechanic Falls and Keanne Petrie of Brooklyn, New York. He is also survived by two great-grandsons Samuel and Jakob Paladino of Mechanic Falls and two sisters, Marjorie Handy of Glen Burnie, Maryland, and Sharon Quincy and her husband William of Wallingford, CT. He was predeceased by his sisters Janette Schaff and Geraldine Bennett.
He worked as a professional driver for many years most notably with Continental Trailways.
At his request, no formal funeral will be held, though a date for a Celebration of Victor's life is pending.
