SEARSPORT - Valerie N. Murphy, 85, life-long resident of Searsport, died on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Tall Pines in Belfast. Born in Searsport on September 23, 1930, she was the daughter of Mildred H. Nickerson and William Withee.
Valerie was a graduate of Searsport High School and married William H. Murphy in 1948. Known as "Mother Searsport," her life was full of dedicated service in her church, community, local organizations, and historic events.
Predeceased by her husband, William Murphy, in 1998; and a baby daughter, Janice Sue, in 1958, she is survived by her three children, Christopher Murphy and his wife, Donne Sinderson, of Orrington, Dr. Karen Kelley and her husband, Rexford, of Searsport and Timothy Murphy and his wife, Linda, of Georgetown, IN; four grandchildren, Jennifer "Jiffy" Kelley-Young of Sebago, Robin Kelley of Seattle, WA, Casey Murphy of Coram, NY, and Courtney Murphy of Sacramento, CA; a stepgrandson, Douglas Russell of Manchester, NH; and a special friend whom she thought of as a son, Scott Parker and his wife, Carol, of Clearwater, FL.
A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at the First Congregational Church in Searsport with the Rev. Deb Arnold officiating. Private interment will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery in Stockton. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the First Congregational Church, P.O.
