Twyla's Story

BRADFORD - Twyla Jean Perry, of Bradford, Maine born September 10th passed away January 27th, at EMMC after a courageous month long battle due to a medical complication.

Twyla was born in Augusta, Maine. Attended Prescott Memorial School in Washington and Union High School. She devoted her life as a wife and homemaker as well as numerous factory positions at American Felt Slipper and Allen's Blueberries in Union.

She married the love of her life, Bruce Bowden Perry 51 years ago when they met at a country dance hall. Together they had 4 children. Jeffrey Perry of Brewer, Shannon Perry of Portland Oregon, Marcia Perry Mitchell and her husband David Mitchell of Bangor, and Marc Perry of Bangor.

Twyla's grandchildren were her entire world. Jordan Clement and Abby Colbry of Bradford, Connor Perry and Taryn Perry of Brewer, Kaleb Perry of Howland and Joshua Clement of Bangor. Special grand puppies Mason and Sadie.

Twyla had a zest for life. She lived for family gatherings, riding shot gun with her daughter Marcia, social outings and her grandson's football games. She was a huge fan of old country music. She loved to yodel and was excited to learn to play the mandolin and harp. Her hobbies included crocheting, making giant batches of Christmas candy, flowers and birds, visits to Owls Head, Branch Lake and annual trips to the Windsor Fair with her sisters and nieces Pamela, Paula and Tammy. Her daily social routine was a visit to the post office to visit her special friend Tami Terry. She faced her biggest fear of flying and went to Texas twice in the past two years. She was so looking forward to visiting her son Shannon in Portland, Oregon.

Twyla was one of 8 children. Her sister and best friend Ionne Allen and husband Darryl of Winterport and special nieces Mindy Whittington and Victoria, sisters Patricia Shuman of Waldoboro, Barbara Jackson and husband Doug of St. Augustine, Florida, Brothers Eugene Bowman of Augusta, Kirk Bowman and wife Mary of Clinton, Wyatt Bowman of Portland. She was predeceased by her parents, Carl Bowman and Virginia Miller Bowman and sister Carla Richards.

Thank you for all of your prayers and special visits during Twyla's hospital stay. Special thanks to her best friend and sister Ionne, her lifelong friend Jane Huckabey, Ron Fortier, Cousin Diane Easency, Sally Symonds, Crystal Boody and Roger & Linda Murphy for your continuous vigil during her stay.

Visiting hours and Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 6th at the Bradford Baptist Church 461 Main Road. Visiting hours 11am - 12pm, service at 12pm followed by a reception at the Bradford Community Center 345 East Road. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring at Williams Cemetery in Bradford.
