Timothy's Story

SAN FRANCISCO, CA AND EAGLE, ID - Timothy James Christensen, born July 22, 1950 in South San Francisco, California, moved on to his next life on January 6, 2015 in his Eagle, Idaho home surrounded by family. He lives on in the hearts of many more. Tim was a good man, a better farmer and a true friend to those who took time to share in his world.

For most of his professional career, Tim was an Instructor in the Biology Department at Colby College in Waterville, ME. For over 25 years, he taught and designed laboratories in horticulture, environmental science, ecology, and biodiversity. His passion for farming and plants was manifested in his popular seminar, Sustainable Agriculture, and he was also the curator of the Colby Greenhouse. While at Colby, Tim was mentor to countless Colby students who worked as interns or apprentices at his Green Earth Gardens farm. Through his teaching and passion for his craft, Tim inspired many Colby graduates to follow in his footsteps and pursue organic farming in the Central Maine area. His legacy lives on in these farmers and their families.

Tim is survived by his mother Pauline, sister Pam, brother Robbie, and his four children: Kai, Lars, Cade & Ben. For each of them he was at times a pillar of strength to lean on, a mentor to guide them, and above all: A loving father to look over them. The life experiences, long conversations late into the evenings and his undying sense of humor will live on in our memories, our actions and the times we share together in tribute to his life.

A private cremation ceremony will be held and in lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to the Maine Farm Land Trust in his name to preserve the beauty of the land he cared so much about. May Tim find peace in his journey beyond.
