KEENE - Thomasine "Tomi" Rafford, 86, a longtime resident of Keene, New Hampshire, died on Monday April 25, 2016 at her son Timothy's home in North Yarmouth, Maine. She was surrounded by loving family at the time of her passing.
She was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on March 20, 1930, the daughter of Frank and Annie (Webb) Nadeau. She attended Fort Fairfield schools and was a 1947 graduate of Fort Fairfield High School. She attended Ricker College in Houlton, Maine and Westbrook Community College in Westbrook, Maine before returning to Fort Fairfield where she married Bert Rafford, longtime Sports Editor of the Keene Sentinel. She was employed for a number of years at the Ramada Inn/Best Western in Keene, initially as a hostess in the restaurant and later as a Sales Manager for the hotel.
She will be remembered for her ever present sense of humor, her knack of making fun of herself rather than others, her incredible homemade bread, her willingness to share secret blueberry and fiddlehead picking spots, her love of dogs, her weekly trips to the Keene Public Library, and for the kind and thoughtful way she lived her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Rafford of Swanzey NH; three sons; Mike and his wife Beth of Durham, NH, Tim and his wife Kendra of North Yarmouth, Maine, and Kyle and his wife Gabrielle of Ketchum, Idaho; one sister; Barbara Fields of Fort Fairfield, Maine, and eight grandchildren; Brianne Rafford-Varley of Chelmsford, Mass., Ryan Rafford of Dover, NH, Cam Rafford of Durham, NH, Trevor Rafford, Christopher "Kit" Rafford and Cullen Rafford of North Yarmouth, Maine, Addison and Toby Rafford of Ketchum, Idaho, several nieces and nephews; and her close friend and partner of many years, Bill Borden of Keene. Her husband Bert Rafford and brother Frank Nadeau died earlier.
