Thomas's Story

GREENVILLE - Thomas W. Roberts, 59, passed away on May 8th, 2014 in Zephyrhills, FL, with his daughters by his side. He was born in Greenville, July 29th, 1954, the son of John and Diane (Bartley) Roberts.

Tommy grew up in Greenville and graduated from GHS in 1972. He completed undergraduate work at the University of Maine, Orono. During his college years he participated in the nation's last log drive aboard the steamship Katahdin. After he graduated from UMO he traveled to Antarctica; working in a civilian capacity for the U.S. Navy. Finally settling in Greenville, he worked as a licensed forester for the paper companies, while raising his girls with Roxanne Cunningham. Community was important to Tommy. He served on the volunteer fire department for Greenville, and as a selectman for the town of Beaver Cove. He was a past master and longtime member of the Columbia Doric Lodge, and the Anah Temple Shriners. He enjoyed his time serving on the board of the Moosehead Historical Society. Tommy loved the state of Maine, especially the Moosehead Lake Region. As a Master Maine Guide he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with locals and tourists alike. He was known as a practical joker, nobody was immune to his tricks. He was a wonderful friend, father, and grandfather. We will miss him always.

He is survived by his daughters, Haley and Kylie; a son-in-law, Mike; his beloved grandchildren, Camden, Holden, and Elena; a brother, Alan (Belinda); a sister, Judy (Gregg); his parents; several nieces and nephews; and many, many lifelong friends.
