BANGOR - Thomas Lacy Jones, III, age 62, a retired attorney, died peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at home from complications due to a long term medical condition. He was born in Augusta, GA to a World War II veteran, Lt. Col. Thomas L. Jones and his wife Doris C. Bewley Jones. He was very proud of his father who helped liberate a concentration camp in Germany and proud of his mother, an American Red Cross volunteer who supported the troops serving in Europe.
Tom served honorably in the US Navy before finishing college. He graduated from the University of WisconsinGreen Bay and was awarded the Outstanding Student of the Year honor. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. As an attorney in Wisconsin, he first worked for Kramer Law Office and later for the City of LaCrosse as a prosecutor in municipal court in addition to labor relations for the City. In 1994, he moved to Maine with his family where he opened his own law office. In his later years he enjoyed working in the hospitality industry where he will be fondly remembered by colleagues and friends. He made many friends who shared his interests in fishing, hunting, chess, books, history, debate, theater, and Jeopardy. He instilled in his children a love of cooking and a unique sense of humor.
He is survived by his three devoted children including daughter Tiffany and her husband Adam Parker (Shrewsbury, MA); son Thomas (Boston, MA) and his girlfriend Elizabeth; and son David and his wife Katy Hamilton Jones (Fairfield, ME). He is survived by his former wife Barbara and her husband, Rick, as the three of them amicably shared co-parenting responsibilities over the years. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many friends who brought laughter and fun to his life. He was predeceased by his parents and his grandparents and his maternal aunt Phyllis Bewley Avery and his paternal great aunt Jeanette E. Roberts.
Family and friends may visit 5 - 7 PM on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Kiley& Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union Street, Bangor. Interment will take place in the summer of 2015. Condolences to The Jones Family may be offered through www.kileyandfoley.com.
