Therese's Story

VAN BUREN & FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Therese (Chasse) Smith, 87, formerly of Van Buren, died Monday, May 4, 2015, in Fayetteville, NC. She was born in Van Buren on December 8, 1927, the ninth of fourteen children born to the late Belonie and Marie (Desrosiers) Chasse, and attended Van Buren schools.

She worked several years with the local telephone company in order to earn money for college. She graduated from Burdett College, Boston, MA, and became an executive secretary with Boeing Company in the Northeast Air Force Bases.

She was a faithful communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish, Fayetteville, and took great interest in parish activities. She will always be remembered by her siblings as having a heart of gold, and was very sensitive to the needs of others.

She is survived by: three brothers, Aurelien Chasse of Houlton, Father Joe Chasse of Framingham, MA, and Emilio Chasse and his wife Betty of Liverpool, NY; three sisters, Jeannine Lynch of Norwood, MA, Leola Ouellette and her husband Norman of Peabody, MA, and Sue Chasse of Van Buren; and many nieces and nephews

Besides her parents, Therese is predeceased by her husband, James P. Smith, in 2002 and seven siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Friday, May 15, 2015 at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
