VAN BUREN - Theresa B. Castonguay, 89, died Thursday. October 9, 2014, at a Caribou hospital, after a long and courageous battle with dementia/Alzheimer's disease. She was born July 27, 1925 in Van Buren, a daughter of the late Jean Baptiste and Martha (Madore) Lebel.
Theresa worked many years on the family potato and animal farm in Hamlin. Theresa was known for her wit, funny sayings, her "green thumb," and, most of all, her cooking. Her favorite pastime was to entertain and play card games. She was always willing and ready to bring family and friends together; they always enjoyed her hearty dinners. Anyone could drop by without warning and feel welcomed. She had an incredible heart and her door was always open.
She is survived by: five children, Roderick Violette of Van Buren, Delmar Violette of Tennessee, Michael Violette of Virginia, Victor Castonguay of New Hampshire, and Lou Ann Constonguay of Gray; two brothers, Anthelm Lebel of Connecticut and Claude Lebel of Florida; one sister, Delicia Bernier of Florida; ten grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Theresa is predeceased by her first husband, George Violette in 1949, her second husband, Jean Castonguay in 2003, a daughter, Laurie Jean Castonguay in 1955, four brothers, Ernest, Lorenzo, Angelo and Lionel Lebel, and one sister Yvette Fortin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Monday, October 13, 2014 at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. There will be no calling hours.
