Terry Kelly, born September 12, 1941, in Plattsburgh, NY, passed away in Bangor on Thursday, July 21, 2016, after a brief, hard-fought battle with lung cancer.
His parents, Thomas and Shirley Kelly, settled and resettled in various parts of northern New York state. Terry graduated from high school in 1959 and Syracuse University in 1963. He entered the world of printing and publishing after college, starting out with typsetting, progressing to supervising printing runs for Kingsport Press, and moving on to editing for Random House and Knopf in New York City. When city life lost its charm, he and his young family moved to Maine where he took an editing position at the University of Maine in Orono. Over the years he branched out to production management and computer programming specific to the printing process. He and Deborah Potter married in 1986.
Most content when building or fixing something, Terry took on house renovations from the foundation up, boat renovations from the cabin down, and whatever plumbing, electrical, or electronic problems needing to be solved.
Terry is survived by his wife Deborah; son Michael and his wife Renee; daughter Kathryn; brother Michael and his wife Cathy; stepson Matthew Simone and his wife Lucy; stepdaughter Kate Simone and her husband Justin Beebe; grandsons Ryan and Ian Kelly, Patrick Smith, Steven Simone, and Leo Beebe; and granddaughter Isabella Simone.
Those wishing to make a contribution in Terry's memory may contact Eastern Maine Charities and specify a donation to EMMC Cancer Care for those in need of financial assistance. The compassionate and skillful care Terry received at EMMC was exceptional.
Details regarding a get together to remember Terry will be forthcoming.
