SOUTHWEST HARBOR - Stephen Michael "Mike" Gross, 61, of Southwest Harbor passed away unexpectedly on June 29th. He was born in Brunswick, ME to parents Wilfred and Hazel Gross on September 15th, 1952. He attended and graduated from both Machias Memorial High School an the University of Maine at Machias. He was a longtime resident of Machias, until he moved to Mount Desert Island in 1994, where he resided until the time of his passing.
Mike was an avid reader and lover of music, film, history, as well as rescuing animals in need. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and was always quick to lend a helping hand to those he loved.
He is survived by his three children, Zachary, 28, MacKenzie, 26 (both of Boston), and Paige, 22 (of Bar Harbor); his longtime companion Diane MacLeod, her daughter Katherine Skeate, her husband Patrick Skeate, and their daughter Peighton; as well as several nieces and nephews; former wife, Lisa Frye, of Vassalboro; and his brother Timothy, of Cutler. He was predeceased by his daughter, Taylor, 23 (of Bangor), and three sisters, as well two brothers.
A service and remembrance ceremony will take place the weekend of September 14th, with more details to be shared via Mike's Facebook account (Mike Gross).
