Signe's Story

MONSON - Signe M. Ranta, aged 99.99, died September 16, 2014, at her home in Monson, with her daughters, Inez and Linda at her side. She was born in Norwood, Mass., November 1, 1914, the daughter of John and Mandy (Rosewell) Strom.

Signe lived in the same house since 1917, and was the holder of the Boston Post Cane as the oldest resident of Monson. She was a member of the Finnish Farmer's Club since it was established in 1935, and a member of the Farm Bureau.

Signe was predeceased by her husband, Nills; a son, William; 2 daughters, Evelyn Ranta and Gladys Dudson; and a brother, Charles. She is survived by 5 daughters, Helen Taylor and her husband, Leslie of Gray, Inez Goodine of Monson, Wanda Veermers and her husband, Robert of WA, Ruth Deneweth and her husband, Gerald of MI, and Linda Monteith of TX; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Hillside Cemetery in Monson. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Guilford. For an online guest register, go to
