Sidney's Story

NEWPORT - Sidney Brewer Gray, 91, went to be with the Lord May 13, 2016. He was born April 23, 1925 in Palmyra, a son of James and Emma (Brewer) Gray.

He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Barrows-Skidgel Post # 105 American Legion, the Newport Memorial Post 11191 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Calvary Baptist Church in Newport. He retired from H. P. Hood Company in 1987 and from the Newport Fire Department and the Newport Police Department after 25 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Newport; a daughter, Claire and husband Charles Latimore of W. Sunbury, PA; 2 step daughters, Linda and husband John Frontiero of Corinna, Dawn and husband Jason Littlefield of Newport; and a brother George Gray of Newport; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grand daughters; and his little buddy Riley.

Sid was predeceased by his 2 sons, James and Robert; a brother Carl; and grand daughter Amy.

Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, May 19th, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 39 Grove Street, Newport, with the Rev. George Perkins officiating. A military committal service will be conducted at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, following the service. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport.
