KENDUSKEAG - Shirley Mae (Bragan) Harvey passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 31, 2016. She was born June 9, 1929, in Millinocket, the daughter of Lawrence and Pauline (Weed) Bragan.
In her younger years, she helped on her family's farm. She loved to ice skate. She graduated from Higgins Classical Institute. In 1947 Shirley married Francis Harvey of Kenduskeag, and together they raised three children. She was a stay-at-home mom while her children were growing up. She was a great seamstress, making a lot of her children and grandchildren's clothing. Later she started work at The Earring Tree as a manager in the new Bangor Mall. After she retired from there, she worked at a hardware store. Shirley enjoyed vacationing with her family; they always rented a house wherever they went so everyone could be together. She was an avid reader sometimes having two books going at once. She loved her cats and her dog. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Frannie Currier and husband, Gary, of Kenduskeag; her son, Stewart Harvey of Kenduskeag; and the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Nichole Harvey, Kamenie Currier, Ben Currier, Kailin Currier, all of Kenduskeag, Lindsey Jewett and her husband, Phil, of Edinburg and Carlie Wright and her husband, Travis, of Georgia. She is also survived by her precious great-grandchildren, Ava and Landin Wright, and Ian and Easton Jewett; three brothers, Arthur Bragan and wife, Mary, of Virginia, Raymond Bragan and his wife, Mary, of Milo and Robert Bragan and wife, Carla, of Sebec. She leaves behind a special niece, Mary Higgins, who she loved like a daughter; and many other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years; her son, Frank Harvey and daughter-in-law, Arlene Harvey; her sister Geraldine Giles; and one brother, Allen Bragan.
Per her request, there will be no funeral, but the family would like to have a celebration of her life from 1-4 p.m. on April 16 at her house in Kenduskeag.
