OBERLIN - Sheldon E. Walker Sr., age 93 of Oberlin, Ohio passed away Wednesday January 28, 2015 in the New Life Hospice Residential Center following a short illness. He was born April 15, 1921 in Portland, Maine and had lived in Oberlin since 1958. He had retired in 1980 from Ford Motor Company in Lorain where he worked in production control and was a member of the UAW. After retirement, he became a licensed thoroughbred horse trainer, traveling all over the US and was trainer at Thistledown Race Track. After high school graduation, he attended Bryant & Stratton College in Boston and then enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and was a navy pilot stationed in Pearl Harbor and Iwo Jima. He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying.
He is survived by his sons Sheldon E. Walker Jr of Hope, ME, Alfred Walker of Moline, IL, Alexander Walker of Jacksonville, FL and David Walker of Oberlin. Survivors also include 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte in 2000 and by his brothers Bert & Eron.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton on Sunday February 1, 2015 from 2- 4pm for a celebration of Sheldon's life. Burial will be in the family plot on Cape Cod, Massachusetts in the spring. The family suggests the any memorial donations be made to the Lorain County Animal Protective League 8303 Murray Ridge Rd.. Elyria, Ohio 44035.
