Sheldon's Story

EAST MILLINOCKET - Sheldon Ralph Crosby, Sr. went peacefully to his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 5, 2015. He was born on October 24, 1928 in East Millinocket, a son of Frank and Helen (Lee) Crosby. He married Theresa Murphy, love of his life, in 1949.

Sheldon was a man of God who lived his faith every day and touched the lives of many. He started work at Great Northern Paper at age 14, working his way from mill laborer to first class machinist, retiring in 1987. For a brief period in 1946, Sheldon served in the U.S. Navy. He was known for his unswerving patience and precision. He enjoyed fixing and building things, yard sales with Theresa, exploring the great outdoors, and above all, spending lots of time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Theresa (Murphy) Crosby, daughter Mary (Crosby) DeSantis of East Millinocket and son Frank Crosby of Elbow Lake. He was predeceased by his son Sheldon Crosby Jr. of Millinocket. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jessica Crosby and her partner Eric Granfors of Nashua, NH; Paul-Mark DeSantis and his wife Michelle and their children, Caleb Sheldon, Brody, Thomas and Peyton of Levant; David Crosby and his wife Robyn and their son Dean Sheldon of Lebanon, NH; Jared DeSantis of Yarmouth; and Stephanie Crosby and her husband Zakaria Allaf of Aleppo, Syria. Sheldon is survived by his sisters Colleen and her husband George Williams of Lisbon, CT and Ferne Stanley of Medway as well as brother Lyndon Crosby of East Millinocket. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Gordon, Donald, and Robert Joseph, and sisters Marguerite Dow and Gwendolyn Serafin.

The family is very grateful to Kelley Coon, Tammi and Kevin McAdam, and Sharon Smyth for providing attentive and loving care to Sheldon.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Tri-Town Baptist Church, 8 Cone Street in East Millinocket. Visitation at the church will begin at 12:00PM, with service commencing at 1:30PM. Gifts in memory of Sheldon may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME, 04462.
