Sheilah's Story

Text size

Milo - Early in the day of November 25, 2016, Sheilah Mungo Bissell, of Milo, passed from this earth to rejoin her father, mother and sister. Sheilah was born on January 10, 1954, in Brighton, New York, to Andrew and Mary Mungo.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resource Management from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY, where she met her husband, Jensen. She worked in a number of retail positions in Saratoga, New York, before moving to Salem, Oregon, with Jensen and working for the Marion County Extension Service. She then attended Clackamas County Community College and completed her associates degree in technical drafting. She then worked for a cable company drafting plans for installing cable in Salem, Oregon. After giving birth to her older son, Peter, in 1983, she left the workforce to concentrate on raising her son. In 1987, Sheilah and Jensen moved to Milo and Jensen began his career with Baxter State Park. In 1989 Sheilah brought her second son, Noah, into the world. When Noah reached school age, Sheilah began her career at Milo Elementary as a health care assistant. This work gave her the opportunity to continue to give love to children and work in a caring environment. This is where she most wanted to be. In 2013 she enrolled in the Downeast School of Massage and earned her license as a massage therapist. She began her massage business, Thrive, in the Northern Reflections Salon in Sebec. The help that she brought to people through massage was a constant source of satisfaction to her.
Sheilah is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jensen; her son, Peter and his wife, Vanessa, and grandson, Felix; son Noah and his wife, Hester; sister, Penny Walls and her husband, John; nephew, Jim Kniskern and his wife, Lisa; cousins, Will, John and Peter Barratt and Peter's wife, Anne; cousin, Amy Morgan and her husband, Steve; and by her many cousins and relatives in Scotland. Sheilah was predeceased by her parents; and her older sister, Pamela, who passed away in May.
A celebration of Sheilah's life will be held early in January at a place and time to be determined. Remembrance gifts may be donated online to Ruths.org or mailed to 39 Blueberry Road, Portland, ME04102. Ruth's is part of Bissell Brothers Brewing "Four Weeks of Giving Campaign." Ruths re-useable resources provides supplies to students in classrooms.
