- Sheila Irene Smith, 78, died March 23, 2017, at an Orono healthcare facility. She was born August 8, 1938, in Milltown, New Brunswick, the daughter of Harold Thornton and Evelyn (O'Brien) Thornton Benner.
She resided together with her husband of 60 years, Mayland Smith, in Lincoln and Springfield. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Vern Olsen and Linda, of Orlando, Florida; three daughters, Debbie MacDonald and Keith, of Lee, Glenna Stevens and Wayne, of Medway and Linda Osgood and Joe, Sr., of Springfield; one brother, Milan Thornton and Shirley, of Millinocket; a half-sister, Jodi, of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Heather, Randi, Desiree, Darcy, Chad, Amy, Joe and Kaelie; 23 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Quie Emery, of Lee. Sheila fought a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease and cancer.
Friends may visit with her family from 12-2 p.m., Monday, March 27, 2017, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Steve Waite officiating. Spring interment will be in Cole Cemetery, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Wytopitlock Baptist Church.
