ELLSWORTH - Sharon Elaine (Closson) Hubbert, 59, passed away unexpectedly June 9, 2015. She was born October 31, 1955 in Ellsworth, daughter of Abner Delbert Foster, and Barbara (Moon) Hammond.
Sharon was an advocate both in her professional and personal life. She spent a number of years working at the District Attorney's office in Penobscot County where she was not only the strength for those in need but also the support behind. Sharon worked closely with organizations that were near to her heart such as Spruce Run and Rape Response Services. Sharon was also known for her volunteer work on the board of directors of Pine Tree Legal Assistance. After raising her children she retired to a career in Restaurant/Hotel management, working for several businesses in the Bar Harbor and Ellsworth area. Sharon brought diversity and awareness to the Ellsworth area by facilitating drag shows that benefited the Down East Aids Network. Throughout Sharon's life many times she was called upon to maneuver through trying times, to be a shoulder to lean on or just be a voice of reason. Most recently, Sharon became First Lady of the Elks Lodge #2743 where she had been a member for 14 years. Sharon most currently held the position of Secretary. Throughout her time with as an Elk, she held titles such as, State Trustee, Officer of the Year, Elk of the month, Elks National Fund Chairwoman and proved to be a beloved sister Elk. Sharon's last days were spent taking care of her own family, and balancing time with her beloved members, either through lodge business, friendly banter or comradery.
She is survived by her husband, her best friend, Robert Hubbert Sr. of Hancock; 2 daughter's, Laurie Estelle Higgins Ward and her husband Lee, their daughters, Jacqueline and her partner Chris and their daughter, Cheyenne, Kimberly and her partner Justin and their daughter Celia, daughter, Jessica (Jacobs) Meyer and her husband Ziegfree and their sons, Rylee and Skylar; niece, Lorrie Murphy and husband Eddie and their children, Dustin and Katrina; nephews, David Jr. and Delwin Faulkingham and their families; special cousin, Mary-Jane Foss; many extended nieces, nephews and cousins; close friend, Cindy White; her cherished Baxter Babes whom she was blessed to "escape" with yearly; many special friends, Sue Bernier and Donald Piper, as well as her fellow Brothers and Sisters of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, most notably those of Lodge #2743. Sharon was predeceased her parents; in addition to son, Corey Bruce Delbert Higgins; sister, Patricia (Hammond) Faulkingham; brother, Leroy Hammond; several aunts and uncles; lifelong pal, Terry Tracy, and far too many friends of her lifetime, all that held a place in her heart.
A service will be held at the Ellsworth Elks Lodge #2743 located on 317 High Street in Ellsworth, June 28, 2015 at 2pm, with a celebration of her life to follow.

Lakeview Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614-2256. A private burial will be at a later date at Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth
