Sharon's Story

SEAL HARBOR - Sharon Look Gilley of Seal Harbor gently passed away February 14, 2015, at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She was born January 31, 1948, in Whiting, Maine, to Austin W. Look and Dorothy Beam Look.

Sharon was the middle child of two brothers and two sisters. She graduated from Washington Academy in 1966. She worked as a nurse's aide at Downeast Community Hospital and with encouragement of Dr. MacBride became a license OR Technician. She became Dr. MacBride's personal scrub nurse and for many years had the pleasure of assisting in many child births in Washington County.

While visiting family in Bar Harbor, Sharon met her future husband, Ernest E. Gilley. They were married for 40 years. She was blessed with a baby boy, Benjamin. Early on in her marriage, Sharon worked for Medical Associates in Bar Harbor. She eventually came to work for Mt. Desert Fire and Rescue, where she worked nearly 20 years before retiring.

Sharon cared for many family members and friends throughout her life, whether easing her mother and father through their sicknesses and passing or cooking and reaching out to those in her community in need of TLC. She will be missed by many.

Gilley and his fiancee, Corinna Burch; stepchildren, Pamela Holmes and her husband, Allen, and Ernest Gilley Jr.; five grandchildren, Aiden Gilley, Tyler Gilley, Noel Williams, Jay Wescott and Drew Davis; as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Tucker Gilley, Luke Gilley and Callahan Williams; one brother, Austin C Look; two sisters, Maryann Look Hall and Constance M Holmes; and many near and dear nieces and nephews.
