- Sandra L. Hames, 76, passed away June 4, 2017, at a Bangor hospital. She was born September 7, 1940, in Berlin, NH, the daughter of Donald and Eileen (Williams) Gatchell.
Sandy grew up in in Connecticut, where she learned to be a hairdresser. Later she even taught others the art of hairdressing. She was probably better known as a cook at various local restaurants, often feeding her boys' friends. She actually met her eventual husband when she was working as a waitress. Sandy was a Cub Scout leader, and also helped George with the local 4H club. She loved to travel, cook, and go camping. Sandy will be remembered as a very caring person who always put others before herself.
She was predeceased by her parents. Sandy is survived by her husband of 57 years, George Hames; sons, Randy Hames, Lee Hames, and Jody Hames and his wife, Janet; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharrone Garbarino, Jackie LoTempio, Eileen Palmer, Linda Provenzano, Barbara Farnsworth, and Jerilyn Malboeuf; sister-in-law, Nora Ashelford; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Helen and Lloyd Buzzell, Sonya and Wayne Mallar, Rose Bessy, Susan Ascencoio, and Debby Marston. Sandy will be especially missed by Buttons, her pet Dalmatian.
