Samuel's Story

SKOWHEGAN - Samuel L. Collins, 68, of Skowhegan, passed away peacefully, Wednesday May 27, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born September 23, 1946 in Kingfield, Maine; he was raised by George and Mary Locke.

Sam was educated in Skowhegan Schools.

He married the former Brenda Closson on July 15, 1966 in Skowhegan, Maine.

Retiring in 2006, from H.E. Sargent in Stillwater, Maine, he spent 35 years as a bulldozer operator with them.

Sam was an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed doing carpentry and he loved animals. He enjoyed Gardening he especially loved squash. Sam loved spending time with his family.

Besides his wife Brenda of 48 years of Skowhegan, he is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Iafrate and her husband Michael of Skowhegan, Samanatha Haff and her husband Andrew of Boxborough, MA, several half-brothers and sisters, five grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Brittany, Alexis, Lucy and Samuel; two brother in-laws, Lawrence Closson of Bangor, David Closson of Kenduskeag, several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday June 2, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the E. Skowhegan Cemetery, Oak Pond Rd., Skowhegan, Maine, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave. Skowhegan, Maine.
